Darulshafa 8 a side Competition - 31st August 2009
Keighley RZM CC win the competition for the second time and at
the same time break one of the oldest records set by the mighty Shabab
in 1986. Shabab won all three competitions - League Champions, Cup
and then the six a side (now the eight a side) in 1986 and Keighley RZM
is now the second team to hold the same record. Although there are three
more fixtures before the end of the season Keighley RZM are crown
champions for the second year running and also have completed a triple -
champions in 2006, 2008 and 2009.
The Darulshafa 8 a side competition was again a success with
over 200 spectators and an electrifying atmosphere, the final lived up
the quality of the matches played throughout the day. Shimla had
the narrowest win to get to the final, they beat Little Horton by just 2
runs and then Attock WB by 3 runs to get to the final, whilst Keighley
won by 8 runs with Heaton Park and an easy win against Darulshafa.
Keighley won the toss and decide to bat first they lost two early wicket
but did recover to reach 94 runs in their 8 overs. Shimla start
with a slow run rate but accelerated at the final four over to leave
them requiring 27 runs of the last two overs, Shimla got 12 runs in the
7th over and were left with 15 runs in the last over. The game
went to the last ball with Shimla requiring 4 runs to win but only
managed 1 run.

Taurus Cup Final
What an exciting game for a final with over 200+ spectators who
enjoyed every minute and most stay until the end of the game. Keighley
won the toss and elected to bat first on a wet wicket and openers Nasar Kamal and Gulsheraz Ahmed
went in to bat with a mission which was to score as many runs as
possible in the first 10 overs
to dominate the game by putting pressure on Shimlas.
Keighley Innings:

5th Over : The plan was
affective until they lost their first wicket on 22 runs, Nasar Kamal
tried to pull a short ball of Mahmood Azam but was caught at square leg
by Khurrum Maqsood.
6th over : Keighley lost another wicket on 26 this time it was their Captain, Masood Ahmed
who was out without troubling the scorers this time to Khurrum Maqsood
and caught by Murtaza Basit.
7th Over : Gulsheraz Ahmed was caught out behind the stumps on 18,
Keighley looked to be in trouble and now under pressure with the superb
bowling of the quickie Mahmood Azam who was firing on all cylinders.
9th Over : That man Mahmood Azam does it again, this time taking the
wicket of Nijat Ahmed (0) with a caught and bowl dismi ssal.
20th Over : Both Shaid Nadeem and Yasir Ali took the score up to 79 but Yasir was bowled out on 23 by Nabbil Khan which lifted the Shimlas
player as the pressure was back on Keighley.
23rd Over : Nadeem Mohammed (6) hit the first 6 of the innings but his
innings was short lived as he was caught by Murtaza Basit of the bowling
of Mahmood Rasool. At this stage Keighley were 86 for 6.
29th Over: A partnership of 29 between Omar Khitab and Shaid Nadeem (the
backbone of Keighley batting) took them to 115 when Omar Khitab (19) was
caught out by Nahim Ashraf of the bowling of the Skipper Kez Ahmed.
30th Over: Four runs later Keighley Lost Shaid Nadeem (25) and it seemed
difficult that they would bat the overs out as they were now relying on
their bowlers.
35th Over : The Skipper of Shimlas, Kez Ahmed strikes again, this time
the hard hitting Zeeshan Qasim (5) who was caught out brilliantly
by Mahmood Azam at Long on. Mahmood Azam had to travel quiet a
distance to take the catch inches away form the boundary line.
39th Over
: Nasar Jamal (10) and Mahir Ali (14no) batted well to take
Keighley score to 151, as Mahmood Azam put an end to Keighley's innings.
Mahmood Azam finished of with impressive figure of 38 - 4.
Shimla Batting:
Shimla plan was to stay on the wicket and push the runs and not to rush
as they only needed 3.36 runs per over. Gharib Razzaq and Khurrum
Maqsood played steady in the first 3 overs.
4th Over : Nadeem Mohammed trapped Gharib Razzaq leg before who
only managed 1 run.
5th
Over : Nasar Jamal bowled Khurrum Maqsood on the first
delivery and then got the prize wicket of Murtaza Basit on his firth
delivery who looked dangerous as he scored 6 runs of just 3 deliveries.
16th Over : Captain Kez and Arun Bala steaded the innings for
Shimla and took the score to 36 before losing their captain, Kez Ahmed
he was caught out brilliantly by Nijat Khan just millimetre of the
ground, the celebration of the catch was ecstatic.
32nd Over : The game turned in favour of Shimla with a superb
innings of Nahim Ashraf who's performance has been under par for most of
the
season.
His partnership with Arun Bala took them to 88 and Keighley were quiet
and under pressure until the third ball of Mahir Ali's over when he took
the wicket of Nahim Ashraf caught by the keeper and the game swung back
in Keighley favour.
34th Over : Mahir ali struck again this time with the wicket of
Raqeeb Younis who was caught behind. Shimla were now 90 for 6 and
the task to reach Keighley's total now seem impossible but there was
still hope as Arun Bala who held the innings together for Shimla was
still at the crease but need to take charge.
38th Over : Nasar Jamal struck for the third time to take the
wicket of Waleed Ditta caught brilliantly by Yasar Ali.
39th Over : Zeeshan Qasim took his second wicket of the match
this time of Arun Bala (35) who was bowled out and Keighley knew that
the victory was in sight and they were into the tail of Shimla batting
with the score at 109 for 7.
40th over : There was a suicidel mix up between Mahmood Azam and
Nabbil Khan which left Mohammed Azam stranded in the middle and a simple
run out for Keighley to take the 8th wicket.
41st Over : The wickets kept coming for Keighley and Shimla
sensed that the challenged of getting the score was no out of reach.
Zeeshan Qasim got his third wicket and Final wicket of Shimla and the
Keighley RZM CC celebrations started.

Section A Championship
The championship of Section A may be determined by the runs
average at the end of the next weeks final fixtures. Darulshafa
have a superior runs average then Friends and will be crowned as Section
A champions at the end of the season regardless of the outcome of their
final fixture with Friends. The difference between the two teams
make it impossible for Friends to close the gap when they play the final
fixture next week. Darulshafa have a net average of 15.33 per
wicket and Friends average is 4.06 per wicket. Friends still have
a chance for promotion into the Premier Section and will need an
outright win to secure their place. For full details....run
rate average - Frds v Darulshafa 2009.xls
Sunday, 9nd August 2009
League Fixtures
Keighley RZM continue winning, today was their 12 win in a row
and it seems that no team can stop them from winning the title with a
clean sheet. Keighley beat Heaton Park by 52 runs in today's
fixture. Shimla also had a convincing win over Bradford Moor,
Shimla batted first and set a target of 294 - 8 with contributions from
G Razak (56*) and B Murtaza (132). Bradford Moor were all bowled
out for 163 with the key bowling performance from A Bala (4-25).
West Bowling lost to Sheffield Alliance today and need to win all last
three games to avoid relegation. In Section A Darulshafa have
secured themselves a place in the Premier Section today but would prefer
to take the title. Darulshafa play Friends next week who need to
win to gain promotion. Run rate for the clubs will be available
before next weeks fixture if the two clubs end up with the same number
of outright wins to decide the championship if Darulshafa lose.
Sunday, 2nd August 2009
League Fixtures
The promotion spot in Section A opens up again with Friends
losing their first game of the season against the new member Asian Lions
who seem to surprise teams, first by beating Little Horton and now
Friends. Darulshafa now 6 points clear with just two more games to
go. Little Horton are now in with a chance but they also need to
win both and hope the Darulshafa beat Friends in the last fixture.
Shaan now have a chance to gain promotion but they need to win both
games and hope that Little Horton and Friends lose one game out of the
two. In the Premier Section the race is to survive relegation
Sheffield Friends will be relegated and it does not look good for West
Bowling or Attock WB, but with another 4/5 games to go it can be any of
the teams at the foot of the tables. The Championship is more or
less decided as Keighley RZM have a 26 point lead and only need to win
one more game.
Sunday, 26th July 2009
League Fixtures
With just 3 remaining fixtures in Section A both Friends and
Darulshafa remain undefeated and play each other on the last fixture of
the season which should be the decider, however if both teams remain
unbeaten and the last fixture is not played due to weather then it will
go on the run rate average to decide the championship in Section A.
Darul shafa beat Little Horton by 67 runs with key performance with the
bat from A Akram (66) and N Khan with the ball (4 - 38). Little
Horton are still with an outside chance of claiming promotion into
the Premier Section if Darulshafa or Friends lose a game and drop 1
point. Friends had a very comfortable win over Leeds Star, Friends
won by 5 wicket chasing a target of 168. The two low scoring games
played in the Premier Section to complete were between, Chach and
Bradford, Chach batted first and were all bowled out for 119 and
Bradford Moor chased the score with the loss of 2 wickets.
The
other game between Attock WB And West Bowling, West Bowling batted first
and were bowled out for just 77 runs in return Attock chased the score
in just 11 over with the loss of 1 wicket. Shimla chance of
closing the gap with Keighley was dampened by the weather, Shimla batted
first and were restricted to 152 in their 45 overs with good disciplined
bowling lead by the Captain, Masood Ahmed and Mahir Ali (4 - 28)
(right). Keighley were 30-0 when the rain came and it was not
possible to continue. Keighley RZM are also likely to be crowned
Champions on the 23rd August if the win the next three games.
Sunday, 19th July 2009
League Fixtures
The forecasted rain threaten but lucky most of the game did
complete, In the Premier Se ction
Keighley scored a colossal 296 for 9 with a century from Gulsheraz Ahmed
(123)(right), in response Bradford Moor were all bowled out for 151,
contribution with the
ball from Nijat Ahmed (4 - 29)(right). The close
game of the day was between Alliance Darnall and Heaton Park, Alliance
Darnall batted first and set a target of 180, throughout the innings of
Heaton park the game swung in favour of both teams until the last over
when 6 were required, Heaton lost two wickets and on the last ball
needed 2 to win, an excellent game by the wicket keeping won the game
for Alliance Darnall by 1 run.

Committee Decision - Committee Meeting held on 4th June 2009
For several
years the league committee has been clear on its disciplinary policy and
has had a zero tolerance towards ill discipline. At the pre season
general meeting held in April 2009 the committee issued disciplinary
guidance to all the member clubs to highlight the four levels of
discipline that players may face if reported to the committee.
After two separate meetings to investigate the report from the umpire
regarding the incident at the game between Sheffield Alliance CC and
Shimla CC on the 31st May 2009 the committee was unanimous in
its decision.
The
committee decision on Thursdays meeting was as follows:
Four players were reported to the committee by the umpire of which 1
player received a life ban from all cricket, 2 players received 5 years
ban from all cricket and the fourth player received 3 years ban with a
further 2 years suspended ban from all cricket. The committee also
unanimously agreed to put forward a proposal to its members to terminate
the membership of Shimla Cricket Club (one of the oldest members in the
league) on eight grounds from immediate effect. In accordance with the
leagues constitution (Rule 5a) a Special Meeting has been called on
Tuesday, 9th June 2009.
All the player bans will come into effect from Saturday (midday), 13th
June 2009, unless an appeal is lodged within the next seven days from
today in which case the suspensions will be deferred until the outcome
of the appeal council. A provisional date has been arranged for
Tuesday, 16th June 2009.
In a separate incident involving one of the four players the appeal
council met on Wednesday, 3rd June 2009 and upheld the
committee decision. Waleed Ditta will serve a four week ban from all
cricket from today (Midday) until the 4th July 2009 (Midday)
(inclusive). The appropriate authorities will be informed of the
decision.

League
Fixtures
The recent change to
constitution in particular rule 14d has had
impact. Most members travelled to the grounds to decide the outcome of today's fixtures rather than looking out for three games being cancelled.
Some matches did start but due to the heavy rain forecasting in the
late afternoon it was not possible to complete the fixture. The
best performance came from the match between Chach and Heaton Park.
The match was reduced to 27 overs when the final interruption
came, Chach finished on 135 for 6.
Ahmed Saeed (left) finished his spell of 5
wickets for 29 runs. In the process he also caught 3 out of the four
dismissal of his own bowling. His bowling figures but Heaton Park

Executive Committee Meeting, held on 3rd February 2009.
At the executive meeting held yesterday the committee agreed to
consolidate the league into two sections to maintain the standard of
cricket played in the league. The argument in favour of the
consolidation was clear from the tables standing in season 2008 in all
three sections and also
the impact of the poor weather over the past two years. The
merging into two sections of 11 teams will allow completion of 20 fixtures in
each section with the league season being extended by one week in
September and one of the cup fixtures being played on the late May day bank
holiday. To find out which teams have been promoted into the new
Premier Section click on league tables 2009. Relegation and
promotion changes will need to be agreed at the April general meeting
for season 2010.
The committee has awarded the cricket balls tender to Taurus Sports at a
reduced cost of £9.00 per ball to the teams, teams will be allowed to use their
previous season stock early in the season. As always we will
request that the supplier contacts each club of the opening times of the
shop with directions. Taurus Sports have also agreed to sponsor
the cup competition for the coming season.
A new sponsor has also been arranged for the Umpires. Premier
Accident Management UK will sponsor the umpires coats for the coming
season.
The committee is
current working towards securing a new league sponsor, but if anyone
wishes to express their interest for this prestigious opportunity please
email bhussain@blueyonder.co.uk.
